Why is it so hard to explain Taoism and the like to people born and raised in a western culture? People raised in this culture believe that something that is bad, like the devil, is all bad. Or that something good, like God is all good. In most Eastern religions people understand the necessary balance of all organisms. The yin/yan symbol displays this perfectly. In each side there is a little of the other. No man is all good, or evil - though he may be more of one than the other. I think that this is better for understanding people. You can't always expect someone to do everything right no matter who they are. Or to always mess up. There is a balance, an equilibrium that each peoson has. Without this balance nothing would make sense. Everything needs its counterpart. Men need women, good needs evil. If there was no evil, what would good really be? We couldn't call it good because there'd be no other way to exist. Good and bad are part of life and we need to know that without all the elements that make us us, then we aren't much of anything. Am I making sense?

  1. perfect sense...I have made this arguement many times...it's nice to think some form of understanding was produced by another.
